Coordinator of Advisement Systems/Academic Advisor

The Coordinator of Advisement Systems/Academic Advisor assists students in determining appropriate educational and/or career goals that are consistent with their interests and aptitudes and then examines and explores various means of achieving these goals. The Incumbent also assists students in their acclimation to the College environment. The Incumbent further assists students in determining their program of study, selecting appropriate classes, creating an academic plan, providing intrusive advisement, and planning other related educational activities which will move the students toward their goals. The Incumbent will serve as an informational resource liaison with the college’s instructional staff and with the staffs of transfer schools. In working with students, the Incumbent will develop a relationship which will enhance and promote students taking responsibility for their respective decisions and actions. This position serves a vital role in our students’ journey to their education and career goals.

The Incumbent will participate in retention activities, develop and help coordinate programs that support student success and retention. Retention strategies will include, but are not limited to the research of student retention issues and the development of programs, in conjunction with instruction and student services departments, that will help ensure the success of at-risk populations.
