The Part-Time Campus Merch Store & Café/Concession Assistant is responsible for providing friendly, efficient service to students, staff, faculty, visitors, and guests while supporting the daily operations of the campus merchandise store.
The primary responsibility of this position is assisting with the operation of the campus merch store, including customer service, sales, stocking, inventory, merchandising, and maintaining a clean and organized retail environment.

When needed, the employee will also provide substitute coverage and operational support in Café 34 and campus concession operations. Flexibility to work across these areas is an important part of the position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Campus Merch Store

  • Provide welcoming and professional customer service to students, employees, and visitors.
  • Operate the cash register and process cash, credit/debit, and other approved payment methods.
  • Assist customers with merchandise selection, sizing, pricing, and product information.
  • Maintain attractive and organized merchandise displays.
  • Restock merchandise and monitor inventory levels.
  • Receive, organize, and label merchandise shipments.
  • Assist with inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Keep the store clean, organized, and presentable.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Follow all cash-handling, security, and store operating procedures.
  • Support special events, campus activities, and promotional sales as needed.

Café 34 & Concession Coverage

  • Provide substitute coverage in Café 34 or concession areas when needed.
  • Assist with customer service, food and beverage service, and point-of-sale transactions.
  • Prepare and serve products according to established procedures.
  • Restock food, beverages, supplies, and other items.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work areas, equipment, counters, and service areas.
  • Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and health requirements.
  • Assist with setting up and breakdown for campus events and concessions.
  • Provide friendly and efficient service during busy periods and special events.

General Responsibilities

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) year of previous customer service, retail, food service, or cashier experience.
  • Food Handlers Certificate.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic cash-handling and point-of-sale skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and friendly demeanor in a busy environment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry merchandise, supplies, and boxes as required.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform routine stocking duties.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, particularly during campus events and busy service periods.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a retail store, café, concession, or similar customer-service environment.
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems.
  • Experience handling inventory or merchandise.
  • Food service or food-safety experience/certification, if applicable.

Schedule
This is a part-time position. The schedule may include weekdays, evenings, special events, and occasional weekends depending on campus needs.
The employee must be willing to provide occasional substitute coverage in Café 34 and/or campus concessions when staffing needs require it.
