Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Student Worker - Job Description

Position Summary:

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Student Assistant supports library resource sharing service by assisting with the processing, delivery, and tracking of materials borrowed from and lent to other libraries. The student employee helps ensure timely access to resources for library patrons while maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, and excellent customer service services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

\- Process incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan materials.

\- Retrieve, sort, and deliver library materials as requested.

\- Scan articles and book chapters in accordance with copyright guidelines and library policies.

\- Assist with packaging and shipping materials to partner libraries.

-Update and maintain records in interlibrary loan management systems.

\- Monitor requests and report issues or delays to library staff.

\- Communicate professionally with library  patrons regarding request  status and material availability.

\- Maintain organized workspaces and storage areas.

\- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

\- Push library carts.

\- Perform repetitive tasks a such as scanning, shelving, and data entry.

\- Assist with special projects and other library duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

\- Indoor, office/library setting.

\- May requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting light to moderate materials.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

\- Current students in good standing at NMHU.

\- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

\- Basic computer proficiency.

\- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

\- Attention to detail and organizational skills.

\- Ability to handle materials carefully, especially in archives and special collections.

\- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Skills:

\- Previous customer service experience.
