Bus Driver Trainee - Transportation Dept 2026-2027 School Year

Starting Salary: $15.25 per hour
Work Schedule: 174 calendar days / 6 hours per day
Training Requirement: Bus driver training must be completed within 60 days.

Primary Purpose:

• Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route, to, and from other designated locations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have a clear and valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Must have a safe driving history.
• Must be able to pass a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and required alcohol and drug testing.
• Must successfully complete the required background qualification process.
• Must complete all required bus driver safety training within 60 days.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses.
• Ability to manage student behavior effectively.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and others.
• Ability to safely operate a school bus and related equipment.
