Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas teaching certificate (EC-6)

SPED Certified-preferred (must complete within a year of being hired)

Description/Notes:

Primary Purpose: Provide dyslexia students with appropriate instructional materials designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable Students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide leadership in the coordination and delivery of services to dyslexia students, which will include designing, planning and modeling lessons. Provide instructional support to campuses in implementing programs designed to meet the needs of students with dyslexia. Assist the district in staff development, technology implementation and parent outreach related to dyslexia. Identify dyslexic students by administering and interpreting diagnostic tests.

Knowledge and Skills:

Advanced knowledge of and compliance with federal and state dyslexia and reading disorder laws.

Working knowledge of and compliance with individualized services for students

Knowledge of the development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process

Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to learn and implement teaching curriculum software programs and instruct students on utilization

Ability to effectively interpret policy, procedures and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessments scoring, etc.

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Experience:

Minimum three years classroom teaching experience. Formal dyslexia training preferred.

Knowledge of the Texas Dyslexia Handbook; reading teacher experience; best practices in dyslexia curriculum and instruction.
