Position: Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor
Schedule: Full Time - 8 hrs day, 260 days
Salary: Appropriate step on salary schedule

Description:

The Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor's general responsibilities will be to assist the Director of Operations with the following:

Service call prioritization and assignments, contractor procurement and assignment, building-level maintenance and procurement of equipment and supplies, maintenance-related asset management tracking and billing, maintenance supply ordering and approvals, assisting maintenance and groundskeepers with daily tasks, assisting maintenance, custodial and grounds keepers with scheduling and event preparation, assisting maintenance, custodial and groundskeepers with landscaping tasks, snow removal, and preventative maintenance tasks. Assist staff with relocation of district assets

NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Essential Functions:

• Coordinate general maintenance, custodial maintenance and grounds maintenance employees

• Oversee implementation of proper general maintenance, custodial maintenance and grounds maintenance practices

• Coordinate purchasing of supplies for the areas listed above

• Attend in-service sessions, workshops, seminars, etc. as deemed necessary by the Director of Operations

• Coordinate facility usage pertaining to maintenance and grounds

• Assist Director of Operations with asset management of maintenance-related equipment and contracts

• Assist with rehabilitation and construction of school buildings and facilities as needed

• Ensure safe and efficient maintenance and preventative maintenance of buildings and grounds

• Supervise maintenance of grounds equipment to ensure safely and efficiently and longevity

• Maintain a program of systematic preventive maintenance for all physical facilities

• Management of maintenance work order system and assignment of duties

• Participate when required in developing a budget for areas or responsibility and operate within that budget

• Keep all records required to perform the duties of the position, including pesticide application management

• Work closely with administration and local authorities in the maintenance and control of the buildings and property

• Assist the Director of Operations with organization and procurement of in-service programs for maintenance staff

• Maintain service contracts necessary for all equipment under his/her jurisdiction

• Assist the Director of Operations in the planning and the supervision of all new constructions and remodeling projects

• Coordinate, assist, and train maintenance and grounds employees

• Approve time schedules, time cards and reports of all personnel under Operations control

• Participate in any necessary disciplinary actions pertaining to maintenance and grounds employees

• Maintain a system of inventories for all equipment under the jurisdiction of the position

• Maintain a system of evaluation of the buildings and grounds equipment for insurance purposes

• Assist maintenance and grounds employees with all maintenance and grounds related duties, including snow removal, mowing, landscaping daily general maintenance tasks, HVAC repairs and custodial building maintenance

. Assist maintenance, grounds and custodial employees with deliveries, moving of equipment, and relocation of building assets

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain respect for confidential information

• Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner

• Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations/Superintendent

Qualifications:

• High school diploma

• Associate degree in a business/technical area preferred

• Experience in supervising maintenance, custodial and grounds personnel

• Holds or is qualified to obtain Pesticide and Fertilization Certification.

• Must have appropriate transportation and be willing to work flexible hours to accomplish required duties

• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent, Operations Director and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Technical knowledge of maintenance, mechanics, and landscaping tools and equipment

• Exhibit a basic knowledge building maintenance and operations

• Exhibit a strong ability to problem solve maintenance issues

• Be neat, courteous, reliable and a proficient team builder

• Be willing to train and maintain a current skill-set

• Exhibit a willingness and ability to work flexible hours necessary to perform the required duties

•Computer and related maintenance software

•Landscaping equipment, tractors and mowers

•Snow plowing and salt distribution equipment

•Various motor vehicles and trailering equipment

•Hand tools and power tools

•Institutional cleaning equipment

• Additional Working Conditions:

• Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue

• Interaction among unruly children

• Operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions

• Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing

• Requirement to travel, both daily and overnight

• Weekend/evening/summer work required

• Occasional requirement to lift up to 75 pounds
