Position: Middle School Boys Basketball Coach
Season: Late November through late January
Schedule: Practices and games according to the district athletic calendar

Compensation: $41.02 per hour
Projected Hours: Approximately 72 hours

Position Summary

Bensenville School District 2 is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle School Boys Basketball Coach to lead and support student-athletes during the basketball season. The coach will provide instruction in basketball fundamentals, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, and create a positive, safe, and encouraging experience for all student-athletes.

Essential Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct organized basketball practices and prepare student-athletes for competition.
• Teach and reinforce fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, defense, footwork, positioning, and game strategy.
• Develop age-appropriate skills and encourage continued growth and participation.
• Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, respect, and positive character development.
• Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions.
• Attend scheduled practices, games, and other team-related activities.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, school staff, officials, and opposing teams.
• Maintain a safe and positive athletic environment and follow all district athletic policies and procedures.
• Follow district procedures related to student health, safety, injury reporting, and emergency response.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to possible concussion symptoms and follow the district's concussion and return-to-play procedures.
• Maintain appropriate records and complete required documentation as requested.
• Work collaboratively with the athletic department and other coaching staff.

Qualifications

• Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and age-appropriate skill development.
• Ability to work positively and effectively with middle school students.
• Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
• Ability to establish and maintain a respectful, inclusive, and encouraging team environment.
• Ability to work evenings and according to the established athletic schedule.

Required Training

Selected candidates must meet all applicable Illinois and Bensenville School District 2 requirements for school athletic coaches, including:

• Completion of required Illinois-approved concussion education/training within the required two-year cycle.
• Completion of district-required emergency, safety, and athletic training.
• Compliance with applicable mandated reporter and student safety requirements.
• Completion of required background screening and employment requirements.
• CPR/AED and first-aid certification

Previous coaching experience is preferred, but a demonstrated knowledge of basketball, strong communication skills, and a commitment to supporting middle school student-athletes will also be considered.
