District Nurse

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate healthcare professional to join our team at Central 301 as a District Nurse. The successful candidate will play a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of our students and staff. This full-time position requires a commitment to providing high-quality nursing care, education, and support within a school setting. The District Nurse will work collaboratively with educators, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all students. Applicants must be an RN who holds an ISBE issued Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed as school nurse. A preferred applicant will also be certified to complete IDPH vision and hearing screenings.

• Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive nursing care to students and staff, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of health issues.
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions or special needs.
• Conduct health screenings, immunization programs, and health education sessions for students and staff.
• Monitor and manage student health records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and parents to address health-related concerns and promote student wellness.
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and emergency care as needed.
• Complete health histories as a component of evaluations for special education (IEPs) and/or 504 plans
• Maintain a clean and organized health office, ensuring all medical supplies and equipment are stocked and in good condition.
• Stay current with state and federal health regulations and trends in school nursing practices.

• Requirements
• Valid RN who holds an ISBE issued Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience in school nursing or pediatric nursing is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of child development, health issues, and school health regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to assess and prioritize health needs in a school setting.
• Proficient in using electronic health records and other healthcare technology.
• CPR and First Aid certification required; additional certifications in school nursing preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
