About this role

Summary Description of Position: The Assistant High School Wrestling Coach will assist the Wrestling Head Coach with the leadership, organization, development, and supervision of the wrestling program. The assistant coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach, athletes, families, school administration, and athletic department staff to ensure a safe and successful program aligned with district expectations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid New York State teaching license, and/or NYSED coaching certification.
  • Completion of all required NYSPHSAA, Section 1, New York State, and district coaching requirements, including First Aid, CPR, AED, and concussion certification.
  • Prior wrestling coaching and/or competitive experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wrestling fundamentals, techniques, strategies, rules, and safety.
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, families, coaches, and school personnel.

*In addition to the above qualifications, all public school employees need mandated fingerprint clearance through NYSED.

Length of Work: Winter Season approximately November-March
Reports to: Director of PE, Health and Athletics and Head Wrestling Coach
Date Position is Available: Winter 2026-27

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Wrestling Coach will assist the Head Coach with all aspects of the wrestling program, including but not limited to:

  • Assist with planning and conducting practices, competitions, conditioning, and team activities.
  • Teach and reinforce wrestling skills, techniques, strategy, rules, and sportsmanship.
  • Provide individualized instruction and support to student-athletes.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive team environment.
  • Provide appropriate supervision of student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team travel.
  • Communicate regularly with the Head Coach regarding student-athlete progress, attendance, injuries, and concerns.
  • Assist with injury prevention, emergency procedures, equipment management, and facility responsibilities.
  • Follow all district policies and comply with NYSPHSAA, Section 1, and New York State regulations.
  • Assist with promoting participation and developing interest in the wrestling program.
  • Attend scheduled practices, competitions, coaches' meetings, and required athletic department activities.
  • Participate in professional development and coaching clinics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Principal.

Salary: $6,014 stipend for the Winter 2026-27 Athletic Season as outlined by CTA Contract Appendix B1
