JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Result I. The SLP becomes increasingly competent in creating the educational
vision and gaining student commitment.

A. The SLP develops a vision of education, consistent with the needs of the child,
Floyd County Schools and the state and federal education agencies

• Has a personal vision of encouraging students to be confident learners and using that
• vision to guide goals, expectations and standards for student work

2. Utilizes various data sources to address instruction

3, Keeps current with education research literature and applies knowledge to the
instructional program

B. The SLP gains the commitment of students by focusing on the power of the
concept that personal growth is the key to harnessing the potential of the
individual

• that involve the use of available up-to-date technologies

2. Communicates standards, expectations, and guidelines regarding the quality and
quantity of student work to students and parents implements individualized

A. The SLP plans instruction effectively

• Identifies individual and group needs and plans the use of appropriate instructional

• Uses materials and resources, including technologies that are appropriately matched to
• instructional goals and to individual student learning styles

3. Incorporates a variety of instructional strategies into daily lessons

• Integrates the teaching of reading, listening, writing, speaking, and the use of
• appropriate learning tools (e.g. calculators, computers, etc.) within the discipline

5. Frames curriculum around essential questions in the discipline that provide
opportunities for reasoning, logic, analysis, and synthesis when planning units,
lessons and assessments

6. Utilizes student data to make data-driven decisions relative to instruction

B. The SLP provides effective assessment of student learning

• Determines specific and challenging standards for student learning and assesses
• progress toward those standards

• Schedules time for individual and interactive reflection on student progress with the
• student

• Prepares and maintains accurate and efficient record keeping systems of the quality
• and quantity of student work

4. Communicates student progress to parents, students, and appropriate staff members in
a timely fashion using a range of information including portfolios, anecdotal records
and other artifacts

learning environment

A. The SLP applies classroom management techniques to establish a positive
and productive learning environment

• Uses time and classroom space productively and efficiently in order to promote
• optimal learning

• Establishes classroom procedures that ensure smooth transition from one activity to
• another

1. Seeks out and collaborates with school-based specialists, resource
personnel, technology specialists, and administrators to better design curricula and
instructional modifications in the learning process

2. Uses a variety of questioning techniques to stimulate student participation, including
those which encourage and guide critical and independent thinking and the
development of ideas

3. Communicates clearly in writing and speaking

• Builds appropriate, positive relationships with students, parents, and staff to enhance
• students’ abilities to learn effectively

5. Functions effectively in a multilingual, multicultural and economically diverse society

Key Result V. The SLP becomes increasingly competent in leading the way to
achieving the vision of the Floyd County School System

1. Works collaboratively with other staff in planning and implementing interdisciplinary
curriculum, instruction, and other school programs and shares expertise and new ideas
with colleagues

• Participates in school, student, faculty, and staff activities, as well as participate in
• professional organizations, collegial study groups and system-wide committees

3. Uses available resources to analyze, expand, and refine professional knowledge and
skills (i.e. professional organizations, academic course work, school-
based staff, administrative and community resources, and other colleagues)

• Works constructively with others to identify school problems and to develop and
• implement solutions

• Models the skills, attitudes, values and processes central to the mission and vision of
• the Floyd County School System
