Position Overview

Greenville ISD is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Dyslexia Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and intervention services for students identified with dyslexia and related reading difficulties. This position supports student academic success through evidence-based instruction, collaboration, and individualized support services.

Primary Purpose

Provide specialized instruction and intervention for students receiving dyslexia and special education services in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), district curriculum, and student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Qualifications

Education and Certification:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with Special Education certification required
• Valid Texas Dyslexia certification or required dyslexia training
• CALT or CALP certification preferred
• Must meet all TEA certification and assignment requirements

Special Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of dyslexia characteristics, intervention strategies, and structured literacy practices
• Knowledge of special education laws, accommodations, and IEP implementation
• Ability to provide individualized and small-group instruction
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills
• Ability to analyze student data and monitor progress
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Experience:

• Experience working with students with dyslexia and reading intervention preferred
• Experience in special education services preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instruction and Intervention

• Provide specialized dyslexia instruction using district-approved programs and structured literacy practices
• Deliver instruction aligned with student IEPs, accommodations, and intervention plans
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data and performance

Student Support and Compliance

• Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in student IEPs and intervention plans
• Maintain accurate student records, progress monitoring data, and required documentation
• Participate in ARD meetings, intervention meetings, and campus support meetings as assigned
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure student success across instructional settings

Collaboration and Communication

• Work collaboratively with campus administration, special education staff, dyslexia specialists, teachers, and parents
• Communicate student progress and instructional recommendations effectively
• Support campus initiatives related to literacy, intervention, and student achievement

Classroom Environment

• Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment
• Promote student confidence, independence, and academic growth
• Reinforce appropriate student behavior and expectations

Professional Responsibilities

• Participate in professional development and required district training
• Maintain compliance with district, state, and federal regulations
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration or the Director of Special Education

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Supervise assigned instructional aides or paraprofessionals as applicable
