Pay Grade: $17.40/Hour
Shift Type: Part-Time
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Crossing Guard Supervisor
Hourly Salary Schedule: 2 hours per instructional day
EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible

• PRIMARY PURPOSE:
• To present a warning to motorists, using safety training and equipment to ensure the safety of pedestrians at designated school crosswalks. As a vital part of our community's safety efforts, you will facilitate safe passage across streets and help maintain order during peak school hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
• High School Diploma or GED

• SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• The crossing guard must exhibit knowledge of standardized procedures and techniques in crossing students to and from school
• The crossing guard must show skills in communication (verbal and nonverbal), social behavior, modeling and tolerance

• EXPERIENCE:
• None

• MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Always remain alert and vigilant
• Must be punctual and regular in attendance
• Report any absences as soon as possible
• Appearance must be maintained and well-groomed with a calm demeanor
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisor
• Safely direct pedestrians and control traffic at designated crosswalks
• Educate students on crossing safety rules and importance of following rules
• Must use whistle to alert drivers of intent of pedestrians entering the crosswalk
• Demonstrate the ability to move out of harm's way and to move rapidly to and from positions
• Raise STOP paddle high and visible when crossing pedestrians
• Blow whistle to alert drivers of pedestrians entering the roadway
• Must have acceptable visual capacity and auditory reception
• Demonstrate the ability to make instant and critical decisions when situations arise
• Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor to foster a sense of community trust
• Possess communication skills via text and email
• Perform other duties as assigned

• SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• None

• WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Ability to tolerate excessive heat/cold and damp conditions.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and walk short distances

• Mental Demands:
• Ability to fill out simple reports.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in fast high traffic situations

• Physical demands/environmental factors:
• Must use both arms and hands simultaneously for extended periods
• Repeated hand and arm movements
• Demonstrate the ability to visually observe and quickly react to traffic and pedestrians
• Physical capacity to blow a whistle
