WAGE/HOUR STATUS:: Non-Exempt
HOURLY RANGE:: $12.75 - $17.25

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under supervision, ensures the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. Also provides skill-based swim and water safety instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

• Minimum 16 years old, college students preferred
• Certificates preferred or able to acquire certification within 30 days of employment (on the job training for certification will be provided):
• Lifeguard Certification
• First Aid
• CPR & AED

Experience:

• Must be an experienced swimmer, preferred lifeguard/swim instructor experience

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
• Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
• Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to use hand tools or machines specific to pool maintenance work.
• Ability to communicate and demonstrate basic swimming strokes and techniques.
• Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities to determine any potential dangers or hazards.
• Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient in interacting with people of various ages from diverse backgrounds.
• Available to work shifts.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Monitors swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Provides skill-based swim and water safety instruction for varying ages.
• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service.
• Performs various maintenance duties as to maintain a clean and safe facility.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress and emotional situations. Irregular hours; outdoor and in the pool work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather. Physical demonstrations of skills; standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting are expected.
