Qualifications

Primary Purpose:

Perform major and minor mechanical repairs with minimal supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Perform assigned work following established policies and procedures. The role supports a positive learning and working environment by performing repairs, preventive maintenance, and improvements as directed by supervisors or foremen.

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED (English)

Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License (will need to acquire class B or A with “P” & “S” Endorsement upon hiring)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language

Must have enough command of the English language to effectively make oral and/or written presentations on activities relate to his/her job responsibility

Be able to communicate using modern communication technology (telephone, two-way radio, etc.)

Basic computer skills in the operation of personal computers or display terminals

Basic knowledge of Vehicle repair and maintenance procedures

Experience:

One year of outstanding performance while working for PSJA ISD a reputable company which specializes or is closely related to the job responsibilities as listed in the job description

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on district assigned vehicles in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
  • Make necessary repairs on any assigned vehicles, ensuring they are safe, operational, and maintained according to standards.
  • Test-drive vehicles after repairs are completed and safely pick up and transport vehicles requiring service or repair.
  • Assist foremen with major repairs and projects, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
  • Review completed work to ensure all requested tasks are finished and verify that no additional issues remain before finalizing.
  • Complete assigned repairs, projects, and service requests accurately and maintain detailed records of work performed, including time and materials used.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques when using tools, equipment, ladders, and machinery; promptly report unsafe conditions that cannot be immediately corrected to a foreman or supervisor.
  • Keep shop areas, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition; perform preventive maintenance on maintenance shop equipment according to established schedules.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance needs and after-hours calls as required.
  • Stay up to date on new methods, tools, and techniques through training, workshops, or professional development.
  • Maintain professionalism, work cooperatively with staff, and communicate effectively with supervisors and foremen to complete assignments.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance, Supervisors, or foremen.

Tools/Equipment Used:

Wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; school bus and district vehicles.

Posture:
Moderate standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Motion:
Moderate walking, climbing; frequent grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; moderate driving

Lifting:

Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment:

Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours;
