Fire and Security System Specialist

Pay Grade: 49B (Salary based on experience)

Primary Purpose:

• Oversees district compliance activities to ensure minimal disruption to instructional programs. Provides electrical services with responsibility for installing, repairing, and replacing fire alarm systems and related equipment. Maintains regular inspection schedule and documents all compliance-related activities, including fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and annual inspections of fire doors and frames. Ensures all required inspections and documentation are completed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and district requirements

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

• Fire Alarm Technician License (preferred)
• High School Diploma/GED; Valid Texas driver's license
• Driving record that is insurable with Plano ISD's insurance carrier

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of fire, health, and safety regulations applicable to fire protection systems
• Knowledge and technical skills necessary to install, maintain, and repair fire protection systems
• Understanding of fire sprinkler and fire extinguisher compliance requirements
• Ability to use tools and apply basic building maintenance practices
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to serve as a positive role model within the department
• Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to established safety procedures
• Willingness to execute a written employment contract with Plano ISD
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience as deemed appropriate by the Administration may be considered

Experience:

• Five years of experience in a facility operations environment.
• Minimum of five years' experience in fire alarms or other life safety field.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Maintain district fire alarm systems in accordance with applicable fire codes, industry best practices, and department procedures
• Maintain district fire suppression and sprinkler systems in accordance with applicable fire codes, best practices, and department procedures
• Maintain district fire extinguishers in accordance with applicable fire codes, best practices, and department procedures
• Serve as the district representative during fire marshal and fire department facility inspections by accompanying inspectors, documenting findings, and ensuring all identified deficiencies are recorded and addressed to maintain code compliance
• Perform annual fire alarm inspections as required by the State and applicable codes
• Assist with annual fire sprinkler and fire line backflow inspections as required by the State and applicable codes
• Analyze blueprints, schematics, and system drawings to determine appropriate installation, upgrade, and maintenance requirements for fire alarm and fire suppression systems
• Diagnose system issues, failures, and malfunctions to identify necessary repairs or corrective actions
• Respond to emergency and after-hours calls to address and resolve immediate safety concerns
• Identify, catalog, and maintain an inventory of repair parts and materials using the district's computerized inventory system
• Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, and test equipment to ensure proper functionality and availability
• Implement and maintain a scheduled preventive maintenance program for fire alarm and fire suppression systems
• Complete required district forms and maintain accurate electronic maintenance and compliance records
• Maintain documentation for all compliance-related responsibilities, including fire sprinkler inspections, fire alarm inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, and fire department inspections
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or administration
• Participate in on-call rotation
• Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor

Equipment Used:

• Computer, district vehicle, forklift, pallet jack, dolly, and other material-handling equipment

Working Conditions:
Mental and Physical Demands/Environmental factors:

• Frequent districtwide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; work indoors and outdoors to conduct on-site inspections of all District facilities. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping and kneeling; possible lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds. Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress.
