Skilled Maintenance Worker / Bus Driver

Primary Purpose:

Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist with maintenance of grounds. Drive bus routes and extra curricular trips as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas Commercial Driver License with P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Knowledge of basic construction and routine facilities maintenance and repair procedures

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)

Ability to operate hand and power tools

Ability to work independently

Experience:

Three years experience in facilities maintenance field

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Repair

• Assist with repair and maintenance of district facilities.
• Fabricate, repair and/or replace cabinets, shelves, doors, flooring, ceiling tiles, building hardware, etc. as needed.
• Install and repair wiring, electrical conduit, fixtures, control and distribution equipment, motors, relays and switches using appropriate devices.
• Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems and equipment using test equipment and instruments.
• Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
• Determine source of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as required.
• Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by the Director of Maintenance.
• Move, install, assemble and repair school furniture and other equipment as needed.

Driving

• Operate district vehicles to transport furniture and equipment throughout the district.
• Safely transport students on school buses or other vehicles as assigned.

Safety

• Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any concerns that are not correctable to the Director of Maintenance immediately.
• Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventative maintenance as required.

Tools/Equipment used: Power tools, hand tools, measuring tools, light-duty truck, school bus, lawnmower, blower, edger.
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting.

Motion: Frequent driving, walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel exposure to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.

Regular on-time attendance is an essential function of this position.
