Instructional and Dyslexia Coach

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education; DAYS/DATE(S): 197; Teacher Pay Plan

Primary Purpose

The Special Education Instructional and Dyslexia Coach works with administrators, classroom teachers, campus and central office support staff to provide support for programs and/or services that supplement the regular education program, including the Dyslexia Program.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Master’s Degree preferred
• Minimum 5 years teaching experience as a teacher serving students with dyslexia and related disorders
• Special Education Texas teaching certificate
• CALT preferred
• Knowledge of student evaluation practices preferred
• Valid driver's license with driving record that meets District requirements

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist in the implementation of quality services and programs for students identified under IDEA with Dyslexia
• Initiate collegiality and work cooperatively with others in a Professional Learning Community
• Develop and provide on-site professional learning for district initiatives
• Disseminate information to campus and department staff regarding compliance with IDEA and the Texas Dyslexia Handbook for students with dyslexia and related disorders
• Collaborate with TTESS Appraiser to identify individual needs of teachers and align coaching support to improve instruction
• Model and coach best teaching practices
• Support training and development of evaluation staff in the identification of dyslexia and related disorders in the FIE
• Serve as a resource to district and department staff on dyslexia and related disorders
• Support teachers and administrators in disaggregating campus data to determine trends and targeted areas for improvement
• Participate in position-related professional development to maintain current, working knowledge of evidence-based practices and state compliance requirements
• Plan and conduct parent awareness training to parents of students identified with dyslexia and related disorders
• Assist with guidance and monitoring of dyslexia screening in accordance with TEC §38.003
• Assist with guidance and training related to documentation of dyslexia services within the IEP
• Serve as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team for evaluations related to basic reading skills and/or reading fluency
• Attend ARD meetings, when needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
• Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
