Maintenance - Grounds Maintenance Worker (M1)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Work is performed under the supervision of the Grounds Foreman, and duties include maintenance of the school district grounds and operating equipment. Performs duties related to cutting, trimming, edging, blowing, and watering of district grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• Valid Texas driver’s license
• High School Diploma, preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to follow verbal or written instructions
• Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
• Ability to operate district vehicles & machinery
• Ability to operate power and hand tools
• Ability to work independently
• General technology skills

Experience:

A minimum of 6 months of groundskeeping/gardening experience is preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Responsibilities include cutting, trimming, edging, blowing, and watering of district grounds and athletic fields—maintenance of beds, shrubs, and trees. Refuse (litter) removal activities.
• Assists in the emergency, daily, and preventative maintenance of all grounds throughout the district.
• Performs daily minor maintenance on all assigned operating equipment.
• Responsible for the safe, proper, and efficient use of all assigned district operating equipment, tools, supplies, and materials.
• Responsible for reporting necessary repairs to assigned vehicles and operating equipment to the supervisor.
• Works harmoniously with all school personnel.
• Is responsible for being punctual in arriving for work and in performing all work in a good workmanship-like manner.
• Is willing to accept supervision.
• Wears and maintains proper safety equipment when handling and/or utilizing chemicals or other hazardous equipment or toxic agents.
• Follows administrative procedures regarding work orders.
• Makes continuous effort for self-improvement.
• Conform to all district policies regarding vehicle operation and seat belt policy, whether as driver or passenger in a district vehicle. Notify supervisor of any accident or injury in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:
Ability to communicate (verbally, written and electronically), understands verbal and written directions and works with minimal supervision.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to operate power and hand tools. Work outside and inside. Exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and odors. Exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles. Chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.); work with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts and may work for long periods of time.
