Speech Language Pathologist (A4)

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education; DAYS/DATE(S): 187; Stipend $2000

Primary Purpose

Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech and/or language disorders. Assesses and provides students with therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with the student’s ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Master’ s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas license as a Speech Language Pathology granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
• Valid driver's license with driving record that meets District requirements

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions
• Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions
• Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

• Open to Clinical Fellowship Year Speech-Language Pathologists

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Ability to administer the most recent test batteries to complete assessments of communication disabilities.
• Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals developed in the Individual Education Plans (IEP).
• Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for consideration of dismissal of therapy services.
• Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observation or data.
• Collaborate as part of the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to determine eligibility for services, appropriate placement and goals setting for students with communication disabilities according to district procedures.
• Communicate with parents regarding student progress with therapy goals and the communication needs of the students.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding the facilitation of generalization of skills demonstrated in therapy, to the classroom
• Troubleshoot problems with assistive devices for the purpose of ensuring equipment is in proper working order
• Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for maturity level and interests of students
• Develop schedules for student services to be carried out efficiently and effectively
• Proficient use of technology and office equipment
• Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents
• Comply with all campus district, state and federal guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Keep informed of new state and federal guidelines and policies
• Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators
• Collaborate with Speech Language Pathologist Assistants, regarding student progress, making recommendations, providing supervisory feedback, etc.
• Engage in SHARS billing
• Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

• May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s).

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchairs or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities. Travel will be required between the campuses and around the district. The position may involve possible exposure to blood or body fluids.
