GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Routing Specialist creates and maintains Regular Education and Special Education routing accordingly, coordinates assignments and schedules of bus drivers/ monitors, and assists in the multiple functions associated with managing a fleet of vehicles daily. This is a key position in our effort to provide quality transportation to the students and staff of SCUCISD.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year experience as a bus driver (preferred)
  • Possess a Texas Commercial Driver’s License with an “S” and “P” endorsement
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing, a Driver’s License check and a criminal background check
  • Basic computer skills (word processor, windows, various software programs)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Analyzes pupil population in attendance areas and adjusts/develops routes to serve their needs.

2. General knowledge of and experience working with word processors, data files, spread sheets and working in a windows environment.

3. Experience with Transfinder routing software, preferred.

4. Assures that drivers have current route descriptions, follow IEP guidelines, and receive proper training.

5. Participate in demographic studies supporting zoning/rezoning efforts and growth projections.

6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date maps for each school campus using guidelines set forth by administration/Board of Trustees.

7. Maintain current rider identification files, and inventory of all necessary equipment.

8. Compile student counts, perform an analysis of data for bus routes, and make adjustments to level loads.

9. Coordinate and communicate with parents and school administrators about transportation questions.

10. Help prepare school transportation reports.

11. Drive a school bus or other District vehicle as required.

12. Assist Dispatcher/Secretary with the telephone and radio dispatch duties as needed.

13. Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written), concentrate, reason, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, memorize, read, coordinate, compile, compute, and maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to lift and/or carry heavy weight (45 pounds or more), perform repetitive hand motions, work around moving objects or vehicles, and may work prolonged or irregular hours. Drive a school bus regularly.
