Middle School Wrestling Coach (#81569)

TITLE: Middle School Wrestling Coach
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal or designee

JOB SUMMARY: The coach is responsible for coaching and overseeing the middle school wrestling program. The coach will be expected to teach wrestling skills, develop student-athletes both on and off the court, and promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive experience for all participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs functions including the following:

• Knowledge:
• Previous coaching experience at the middle school or high school level is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of wrestling fundamentals, rules, strategies, and techniques.

• Complexity of Duties:
• Teaching fundamentals and designing practice plans for student athletes.
• Focus on age-appropriate drills to improve individual skills and team concept.
• Instill discipline, sportsmanship, and the importance of effort.
• Promote teamwork, cooperation, and positive communication among players.

• Interaction with Supervisor:
• Abiding by requirements or expectations established by the IESA, Valley View School District 365U, and the building-level Athletic Director or Administrator for Athletics.

• Contact with Others:
• Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding schedules, expectations, and player progress
• Work with the school administration on logistics (scheduling practices, games, etc.).
• Uphold school policies and ensure academic success remains a priority for student-athletes.

• Contact Time:
• Practice and meet times will vary depending on the school's gym usage and building calendar.
• Minimum 110 hours per season

• Working Conditions:
• Part-time, seasonal position, typically lasting for the duration of the wrestling season.
• Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends for practices and meets.

• Character of Supervision:
• Foster a positive environment where players feel supported and encouraged.
• Model respectful behavior, good sportsmanship, and a strong work ethic.
• Serve as a mentor, providing guidance on handling pressure, dealing with failure, and personal growth.

• Scope of Supervision:
• The coach is responsible for the safety and well-being of the student-athletes, especially when traveling to and from meets or engaging in strenuous physical activity.
• Supervising the students before and after practices and meets.
• Ensuring all athletes are accounted for and have transportation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Appointment will be determined by the Building Administrator. Compensation for this position is in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Valley View council AFT Local 604, and Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Valley View Council and the Board of Education.
