Job Title:: Campus Custodian / Janitor (with Child Nutrition Support)
Location:: Walnut Bend ISD Campus, Gainesville, TX
Reports To:: Campus Principal

Job Summary

The Campus Custodian maintains a clean, safe, and positive learning environment for the students and staff of Walnut Bend ISD. Because of our close-knit, single-campus community, this role requires flexibility and daily collaboration across departments. In addition to general building cleaning, this position provides direct daily support to the Child Nutrition program by operating the commercial dishwasher, hand-washing kitchen items, and sanitizing the student dining areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Cafeteria Dishwashing & Child Nutrition Support

• Operate commercial dishwashers: Load, run, and empty commercial dishwashing machines to sanitize student trays, silverware, and food prep utensils.
• Manual pot washing: Clean and sanitize large pots, pans, and commercial baking sheets.
• Dining room turnover: Wipe down, clean, and thoroughly disinfect student lunch tables and benches between lunch shifts.
• Kitchen waste removal: Empty, wash, and re-line kitchen trash receptacles, recycling bins, and food waste containers, transporting bags to outdoor dumpsters.

• General Facilities Custodial Operations

• Daily cleaning: Sweep, dust, vacuum, and wet-mop classrooms, hallways, offices, and the gymnasium.
• Restroom sanitation: Clean and disinfect all student and staff restrooms daily; restock toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
• High-touch disinfection: Frequently sanitize water fountains, doorknobs, light switches, and handrails to limit the spread of germs.
• Seasonal floor maintenance: Assist with stripping, waxing, buffing, or deep-cleaning floors during summer, winter, and spring breaks.

• Campus Safety, Security, & Groundskeeping

• Texas safety compliance: Store and use all cleaning chemicals and tools strictly according to OSHA standards and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Biohazard cleanup: Safely clean and disinfect bodily fluids following established Bloodborne Pathogens safety protocols.
• Facility security: Lock and unlock designated campus doors, secure all windows, and report any maintenance issues or vandalism to school administration.
• Exterior care: Keep school walkways, porches, and entryways clear of litter and safety hazards.
• Other duties as assigned.
