About this role

The West Seneca Central School District has an immediate opening for a Teaching Assistant at West Seneca East Senior High School. This vacancy is a full-time, probationary appointment with the primary responsibility of supervision of our secondary in-school suspension program (ISS).

Primary Function: The Teaching Assistant is responsible for helping to create a safe, consistent, stimulating, and nurturing learning environment and to assist every student in reaching his/her potential. The Teaching Assistant is to act as a positive role model for students, and to strive for quality and promote pride in all District endeavors and to fulfill the mission of the District.

The Teaching Assistant job description is based on the Criteria for Effective Teaching (CET) and will include the following domains/factors:

  • Collaboration with building administration to build an in-school suspension (ISS) program that is restorative, supportive, and helps students take responsibility for their actions.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers to collect assignments, administer those assignments to students in the ISS and return the assignments to the teachers as needed.
  • Knowledge of PBIS and implementing positive, effective management strategies.
  • Monitor hallways, study halls and cafeterias as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.

This position is a full-time (1.0 FTE), probationary position to begin effective immediately. Salary and benefits (health & dental), paid according to the West Seneca Teachers Association's collective bargaining agreement, will be offered to the selected candidate upon hire.

The successful candidates must hold NYS certification. Experience in a high school setting is preferred but not required.

Required Certification(s): Teaching Assistant (Levels I; II; or III) or certification in any NYS Part 30 tenure area.

Additional Certification(s) preferred: NYS certification in a secondary education core subject is helpful but not required.
