We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty - History who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide high-quality, learner-centered instruction in Survey of United States History I and II through online and technology-supported learning environments. Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering course content, assessing student learning outcomes, providing timely feedback, and maintaining academic standards consistent with Amarillo College policies and approved curriculum.
This position is filled on an as-needed basis and is contingent upon institutional and instructional needs.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONRequired: Master’s Degree in History with at least eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in History.
Preferred: Doctorate in History
EXPERIENCERequired: Experience in teaching higher education, including student teaching experience. Experience teaching introductory and college-level History courses. Experience teaching in online or technology-supported learning environments.
Preferred: One (1) or more years of teaching experience in higher education, student teaching, or dual-credit instruction. Experience teaching in online or technology-supported learning environments is also preferred.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned History courses using appropriate, engaging, and learner-centered instructional methods.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver organized online and technology-supported instruction aligned with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi consistent with approved curriculum, catalog descriptions, and institutional guidelines.
  • Create engaging lessons and learning activities that promote student participation, critical thinking, historical analysis, and application of course material.
  • Evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, discussions, projects, and other appropriate assessments.
  • Design and implement assessments that effectively measure student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, participation, grades, and academic performance.
  • Provide students with timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback regarding their academic progress.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and provide academic assistance through scheduled office hours, appointments, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  • Submit required college reports, records, and forms accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Participate in course and curriculum development, review, revision, assessment, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, orientations, and professional development activities.
  • Support student retention, completion, and academic success.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Salary: Amarillo College Pay Grades, please review the TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and/or maneuver office supplies as needed. Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary). Work Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines.
