This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Faculty - Chemistry who will be all-in on our mission and who provides high-quality, learner-centered instruction in Chemistry courses, including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and other related courses in classroom, laboratory, technology-supported, and online environments. Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering course content, assessing student learning outcomes, and maintaining academic standards consistent with Amarillo College policies and approved curriculum.
The faculty member supports student success by maintaining subject matter expertise, engaging in professional development, and participating in departmental, divisional, and college initiatives that promote teaching excellence, student engagement, and continuous improvement. Faculty are expected to actively contribute to Amarillo College’s mission of transforming our community and economy through learning, innovation, and achievement.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Required: Master’s Degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline with at least eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Chemistry.

Preferred: Doctorate Degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: One (1) or more years of teaching experience in higher education, including student teaching experience. Experience teaching introductory and college-level Chemistry courses, including laboratory instruction. Experience teaching in online or technology-supported learning environments.

Preferred: Three (3) or more years of teaching experience in higher education, including student teaching experience. Experience teaching introductory and college-level Chemistry courses, including laboratory instruction. Experience teaching in online or technology-supported learning environments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Participate in faculty development programs, professional learning opportunities, and recruitment activities each semester.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, growth, and academic progress.
• Plan, develop, and deliver organized classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online instruction aligned with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
• Develop and maintain Chemistry curricula and course syllabi consistent with approved curriculum and catalog descriptions.
• Provide classroom and online instruction; direct student projects; and assist students with coursework, research, and internship opportunities.
• Teach assigned Chemistry courses in classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online formats as needed.
• Select and evaluate appropriate instructional materials, including textbooks, laboratory materials, equipment, and digital learning tools.
• Maintain a safe laboratory environment by following established procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of chemicals and other laboratory materials.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of Chemistry principles, laboratory practices, equipment, and applicable safety procedures.
• Ability to clearly explain complex scientific and mathematical concepts.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and remain effective in a fast-paced academic environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Excellent oral, written, listening, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office applications, learning management systems, and other technologies used for course development and instruction.
• Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students, colleagues, and members of the community.
• Ability to support nontraditional learners and students with disabilities.
• Ability to follow laboratory safety procedures and properly handle, store, and dispose of chemicals and other laboratory materials.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
