Job Summary

The Director of Small Business Development Center has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, assisting in coordinating business seminars, consulting entrepreneurs regarding their business needs and developing business relationships with local financial institutions. This position is also responsible for promoting the Center to the public, overseeing the federal and state budgets allotted to the Center, participates in various training functions of the SBDC lead center at University of Houston and oversees the reporting of the Center’s activities. This is a full-time position that reports to the Vice President for Workforce Development and Economic Development.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Aid existing small businesses in growth
• Aid entrepreneurs in the planning and execution of a new small business
• Introduce an understanding of small business development to college students
• Actively fosters entrepreneurial growth in students with small business interest
• Design and delivery of classes which aid students and other entrepreneurs to improve their credit, to create needed business documents, and accomplish other needed steps in business planning
• Create a bridge between hopeful new entrepreneurs and a small business lending partner
• Comply with campus policies and procedures
• Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• Five (5) years business management (business consulting/advising, business development, business administration/supervision, direct entrepreneurial experience in launching and operating a small business)
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s in Business Administration
• Certified Public Accountancy Certification (CPA)
• Diverse experience in business including experience in industry, rural, and minority owned business startup and operations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of tax forms and regulations
• Knowledge of payroll and business taxes
• Knowledge of business accounting systems
• Knowledge of business law
• Knowledge of small business funding including SBA, CDFI and microlending.
• Skilled in marketing
• Ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner

Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements:
This position requires employees to remain in a stationary position most of the time; move to various locations on campus; move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; and operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.

Travel:
Some travel is required.

Work Hours:
Monday – Friday; 40 hours per week. May require occasional evening or weekend hours.
