Mathematics Tenure Track Position – Fall 2027

Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics with a start date of fall 2027. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests are located in any area of Pure or Applied Mathematics. Sarah Lawrence is a small, coeducational liberal arts college located near New York City with an open curriculum and unique pedagogy based on small classes and individualized student projects.

Candidates capable of teaching broadly across the undergraduate Mathematics curriculum and interested in developing courses of an interdisciplinary nature connecting Mathematics to topics in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities or Arts are particularly encouraged to apply. We invite applicants who think creatively and ambitiously about new directions for the Mathematics curriculum at Sarah Lawrence College.

The successful candidate will be a highly effective teacher and mentor in multiple pedagogical settings with a diverse student body. They will coordinate their course offerings as part of a multidisciplinary natural science faculty group currently consisting of Biology, Chemistry Computer Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics and Physics. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an ability to teach Mathematics at introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate levels, produce high-quality scholarly work, supervise undergraduate student research, and contribute to the overall intellectual growth of the College.

Sarah Lawrence is a small liberal arts college with a dynamic and holistic curriculum, designed to foster students’ capacity to develop a program of study that is unique to them. We therefore welcome candidates who are intellectually versatile and well rounded, interested in designing and teaching a wide range of courses, including those outside of their area of expertise, and willing to advise students of diverse interests, backgrounds, and trajectories. The position is teaching-intensive, involving two courses per semester. Beyond class instruction, each of these courses includes a significant component of individualized or small-group work with students. The application should include the following: cover letter, CV, copy of the graduate transcript, statement of teaching philosophy and scholarly interests that incorporates how diversity, equity, and inclusion inform your work, descriptions of two courses that could be offered at Sarah Lawrence including one interdisciplinary course, a sample of scholarly writing, and three professional references who will be contacted for a letter of recommendation upon submission of the candidate’s application. At least one letter of recommendation should speak directly to the candidate’s teaching ability.

Compensation listed for this position is for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position.

The final salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, including the nature and extent of relevant teaching experience.
