Summary

The OTA Adjunct Faculty is responsible for providing quality instruction, supervision, and support for students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. This role requires adapting teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs, delivering courses online, in a hybrid format, and/or in-person, and maintaining professional relationships within the academic and local communities.

Pay:
$600 per credit hour

Essential Duties or Responsibilities

The essential duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

• Teach assigned courses, including both theoretical and practical components, in a variety of formats (online, lab, classroom)
• Supervise OTA students in lab and/or clinical settings and provide mentorship during clinical hours.
• Develop and implement a variety of teaching methods and materials to accommodate students with different educational and experiential backgrounds.
• Advise and support students throughout the program, offering guidance on coursework, clinical placements, and career development.
• Maintain accurate student records, including grading assignments and evaluating performance based on course and clinical objectives.
• Collaborate with the OTA Program Director and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator to continuously improve program curricula and ensure alignment with institutional and industry standards.
• Maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, and the wider community, ensuring open communication and transparency.
• Handle confidential student information and course documentation in accordance with institutional policies.
• Maintain an annual professional development plan that outlines goals/resources to document current evidence-based knowledge in all areas of teaching responsibility.
• Ensure cost-effective use of materials, including maintaining inventories for lab and classroom resources.

Other related duties which may be required by the Allied Health Department Chair (duties that may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but are generally within the occupational series and responsibility level associated with the employee’s class of work).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

• Three (3) years of clinical experience as a licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), or Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR)
• COTA: Associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited college or university
• OTR: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PHD/Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
• Current IL license as COTA or OTR.

Preferred

• Experience teaching at the secondary or college level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
