Job Title: On-Call Substitute Teacher Exemption Status/Test: Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose:

The On-Call Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. The substitute is responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment while following lesson plans, classroom procedures, and Academy of Accelerated Learning policies and expectations.

The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, professional, and comfortable working with students across various grade levels and instructional settings.

Non-Degreed Substitute – High School Diploma/GED

$90.00 per day

Degreed Substitute – Bachelor's Degree or Higher

$110.00 per day

Certified Substitute – Valid Texas Teaching Certificate

$120.00 per day

Compensation is based on the employee's highest verified educational or certification qualification.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Required:

High school diploma or GED.

Successful completion of all required background checks and employment screenings.

Ability to work effectively with students in a school environment.

Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and school information.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate.

Previous classroom, teaching, tutoring, paraprofessional, childcare, or youth-development experience.

Experience working with students in a K–12 educational setting.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.
• Provide appropriate instruction and supervision to students.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
• Take attendance and complete required classroom documentation.
• Assist students with assigned activities, lessons, and learning tasks.
• Maintain classroom routines and procedures.
• Monitor student behavior and follow AAL's student behavior and classroom management expectations.
• Report student concerns, behavioral incidents, injuries, or other significant issues to the appropriate administrator.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and Academy information.
• Perform assigned supervision duties, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, hallway, or other duties as needed.
• Leave appropriate information for the regular classroom teacher regarding completed assignments, student concerns, and classroom activities.
• Follow all Academy policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Attend required substitute orientation or training as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the campus administrator.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise instructional paraprofessionals, student teacher(s), and volunteers assigned by the principal.

Equipment Used:

Interactive whiteboard, computer, printer, copier, overhead projector, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the teaching assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the teaching assignment.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting (e.g., replacing stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment/technology).

Motion: The level of mobility required depends on the grade level of the teaching assignment and its requirements.
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
