Job Description:

The Andover Central School District is seeking qualified candidates for per diem substitute teaching placements for the 2026-2027 school year. Interviews will be conducted based on application submissions. In this role, you will follow the curriculum provided by the principal or the absent teacher, assign homework, and oversee attendance. You will provide guidance to students and monitor their progress to report back to the regular teacher. Ultimately, you will help us maintain smooth class operations and promote effective learning and development.

Responsibilities:

• Follow the curriculum and lesson plans provided by the absent teacher or principal.
• Apply various teaching techniques, including interactive methods and game-based activities, to encourage participation and facilitate learning.
• Assign classwork and homework.
• Take attendance according to school policy.
• Track students' progress and document information useful for the regular teacher.
• Report any incidents regarding student behavior both inside and outside the classroom.
• Maintain a tidy and safe classroom environment.
• Ensure the safety of all students in the classroom.

Requirements:

• Experience working with children.
• Some knowledge and understanding of learning techniques and teaching methods.
• Excellent communication and writing skills.
• Ability to remain patient and approachable while maintaining an orderly classroom.
• Strong organizational skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education (preferred).
• Previous experience as a part-time or full-time teacher.

Pay Rates:

The daily per diem rate for substitutes is based on the level of certification:

• Retired ACS Teacher - $160.00 / Full Day
• Certified - $145.00 / Full Day
• Bachelor's Degree - $125.00 / Full Day
• All Others - $116.00 / Full Day
