Health Aide

SUMMARY

Evaluate and monitor students' immediate health needs.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Background in medical work preferred. 2 years in a related field or AA Degree, preferable CNA or Medical Assistant. Strong people skills. Strong technology skills. Basic First Aid and CPR certification required. Use of an audiometer is preferred, however, training will be available. Eliglbe to obtain a DPS IVP Fingerprint Card

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.

• Conducts school health service, including immediate basic medical needs, and screening for hearing and vision.
• Assumes responsibility for the selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
• Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
• Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
• Visits student homes when necessary.
• Participates with school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program.
• Advise on exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with Board policy on infectious and contagious diseases.
• Advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health issues.
• Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools.
• Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum.
• Participates in the in-service training program.
• Responsible for all student caregiving duties.

Skills in the area of health. Strong, positive interpersonal skills.

MENTAL TASKS:

Communicates. Performs functions from oral and written instructions. Evaluates written materials. Problem solves with detail. Long-term planning skills. View learning tasks from several levels.

PHYSICAL TASKS:

Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Work involves sitting for periods of time, and requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, holding, and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required in public contact positions. The employee may be required to climb various equipment including but not limited to ladders and step stools or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS:

Utilize office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, and copiers. Use of basic medical equipment.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Employee will have the opportunity to attend workshops and/or conferences and utilize other professional development opportunities to improve his/her skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mostly Indoors. Office environment. Contact with students, employees, and the public.

Shift Type Full-Time: Salary Range: $18.60 to $22.67 per hour
