Position Summary

Buffalo Upper Junior High is seeking a qualified, dependable, and student-centered individual to serve as a Life Skills Paraprofessional. The individual selected for this position will work under the supervision of the special education teacher and campus administration to provide instructional, behavioral, physical, and personal-care support to students receiving special education services in the Life Skills classroom.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Assist the classroom teacher in providing instructional support and implementing students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Provide assistance with daily living and self-care skills, including toileting, diaper changing, personal hygiene, and other personal-care needs.
• Assist with feeding and other individualized student needs as required.
• Lift, transfer, position, and physically assist students as necessary to support mobility, safety, and participation in the school environment.
• Assist students with mobility and movement throughout the classroom, campus, and other school settings.
• Provide behavioral support and assist with implementing individual behavior plans and classroom procedures.
• Supervise students throughout the instructional day and during transitions, meals, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned activities.
• Assist students in developing independence, communication, social, functional, and daily living skills.
• Maintain student dignity, privacy, safety, and confidentiality at all times.
• Collaborate professionally with teachers, administrators, related-service providers, and other campus personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or campus administration.

Physical and Personal-Care Requirements

Due to the nature of the Life Skills program, this position requires an individual who is able and willing to provide hands-on assistance to students with significant support needs. Applicants must be comfortable performing personal-care responsibilities, including toileting and changing diapers, and must be physically capable of lifting, transferring, positioning, and assisting students with mobility, with appropriate assistance and equipment when required.
