Apprentice in Speech and Language Pathology

Essential Duties

• Provide speech-language intervention services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in accordance with New Mexico licensure requirements.
• Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the supervising SLP to address speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication goals.
• Conduct individual and small-group therapy sessions as assigned by the supervising SLP.
• Collect, document, and report student performance data and progress toward Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
• Assist the supervising SLP in preparing therapy materials, activities, and instructional resources.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, attendance, progress notes, and Medicaid billing documentation as applicable.
• Support the supervising SLP in scheduling services and maintaining student records in compliance with district, state, and federal confidentiality requirements.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student communication needs.
• Assist in implementing classroom-based strategies to facilitate student communication and participation.
• Utilize augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology as directed by the supervising SLP.
• Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as requested by the supervising SLP.
• Maintain therapy equipment, materials, and workspaces.
• Comply with district policies, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, FERPA, Medicaid requirements, and applicable New Mexico regulations.
• Participate in required professional development and training.
• Perform other duties related to speech-language services as assigned and consistent with New Mexico law and Board regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and compliance with educational requirements, as per 16 NMAC 26.2
• Temporary Paraprofessional License as an Apprentice in Speech-Language (ASL) issued by the New Mexico Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Board
• Working towards a license pursuant to the provisions of the Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Act
