Science Teacher (MATERNITY LEAVE JANUARY - APRIL 2027)

POSITION: SCIENCE TEACHER (Starting January until End of April)

Position Description:
The Science Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure academic success. This role involves teaching Biology to students, differentiating instruction to meet diverse needs, and contributing to the development of curriculum and instructional strategies within the Science department.

Essential Functions:

Instruction and Curriculum Development: Plan and deliver engaging Biology lessons, utilizing research-based strategies to support comprehension. Implement varied instructional and assessment strategies to engage diverse learners.
Differentiated Instruction: Differentiate instruction to ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students.
Classroom Environment: Foster an inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity. Build positive student-teacher relationships to foster a supportive classroom environment.
Assessment and Feedback: Assess student progress in scientific understanding, providing constructive feedback to enhance learning.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate with Science department teams to align instruction and best practices. Work with colleagues, support staff, and administration to align best practices.
Communication: Communicate effectively with students, families, and support staff to promote student success.
Guidelines: Follow school policies and departmental guidelines for curriculum development, grading and instructional practices.
Innovative Practices: Integrate inquiry-based learning, lab activities, and real-world applications into the curriculum. Utilize technology and innovative methodologies to enhance student learning.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Biology or a related field. Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsements in Science-Biology

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong Understanding of Science Content: Knowledge of Biology and Chemistry principles and pedagogy, particularly inquiry and phenomena-based instruction.
Classroom Management: Ability to manage a diverse classroom effectively.
Collaboration Skills: Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Cultural Competence: Ability to foster an inclusive environment celebrating diversity.
Innovative Teaching: Ability to instruct students in developing their skills within the Science and Engineering Principles.

Working Conditions:
This position requires frequent standing and walking throughout the school day. Teachers work in a dynamic educational setting that is often fast-paced and intellectually stimulating. While the environment is generally structured, teachers must be adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of their students. Occasional evening events, such as parent-teacher conferences and open houses, may be required. The role involves managing a classroom environment, planning lessons, and collaborating with colleagues, all of which contribute to a fulfilling and engaging professional experience.

Salary:. Compensation is at the daily rate of $125.00 for 5.5 periods for 20 consecutive days. On the 21st day of subbing, you are compensated as long term subs which is $317.41 daily rate. Offered
