About this role

The position of a P.B.S.I. (Positive Behavior Support Initiative) Instructional Assistant is available immediately at East Central ISD. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension for disciplinary reasons. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision of the school administration.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Check on students who struggle with behavior in the classroom.
  • Assist as the first responder to students who struggle with behavior on campus.
  • Provide social skills to students on appropriate behavior.
  • Enter office referral data into the system, PEIMS data.
  • Assume responsibility of students assigned to the in-school suspension program.
  • Communicate and coordinate daily with teachers of assigned students for assignments, materials, and/or special instructional needs.
  • Assist students when necessary for accurate and timely completion of assignments.
  • Assist school administration where needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Must have one of the following:

  • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or related area
  • Treasuring our Paraprofessional certificate (must be obtained prior to employment; applicant is responsible for all associated costs)

Educational Aide Certificate
Ability to communicate effectively
Perform duties with a minimum of supervision

EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. May be required to lift and position student's w/physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Work inside; may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days-basis
SALARY: Pay Grade 202
