Special Ed Classroom Assistant

Position Needed: 1.0 FTE Classroom Assistant Position
Qualifications:

• Illinois Educator License endorsed as a Paraprofessional; PLS-Paraprofessional License (formerly Statement of Approval from Illinois State Board of Education) or have earned 60 College Credit Hours

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with special needs children
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills that support collaboration
• Ability to provide individual educational and behavioral support to enable students to improve academically and behaviorally
• Ability to assist classroom teachers with instructional and behavioral strategies to facilitate student's general education access
• Demonstrated skills in providing training, consultation and other support activities to staff working with students with special needs
• Skilled in providing direction and training to paraprofessional staff assigned to the special education classroom
• Willing to serve on building and District committees, and coach/sponsor student activities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Responsible, honest, tactful, able to maintain confidentiality, and be of good character.

Job Requirements:

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position generally requires approximately 30% sitting, 30% walking, and 40% standing. Duties may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching, sitting on the floor, and assisting students with school-related tasks. The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally. The position is typically performed in a school environment and may include exposure to food, cleaning products, specialized materials, and minor temperature variations.

Salary: $19.50 per hour. Competitive benefit package
