About this role
Mechanic - Fleet/Bus
Ensures the safety and NJMVC compliance of the district's school bus and maintenance vehicles, performing necessary repairs as required. Perform the maintenance and repair of district heavy equipment and small engines.
Requirements:
- Graduate of Technical Institute with 3 years experience or 5 years of experience in the automotive maintenance industry
- Experience in general mechanic work involving all phases of vehicle maintenance and repairs pertaining to gasoline and diesel engines of:
- cars,
- vans
- trucks
- buses
- Ability to perform small engine repairs on equipment such as:
- lawnmowers
- weed whackers,
- leaf blowers
- snow plows
- Familiar with new vehicle electronic systems
- ASE certification preferred
- OSHA 30 General Industry Certified (or eligible within ninety days of first date of employment)
- Valid NJ Commercial Drivers License Class "B"
- Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Must have own hand tools
- Ability to work in a school setting
- Good listening, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use a computer keyboard to access
- computerized manuals
- computerized work order programs
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel and reach in all directions
- Possess physical dexterity
- Ability to pass the required Criminal History Review and the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure
- Ability to pass the required physical examination for employment
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
Effective: 2026-2027 School Year
Salary: Unaffiliated $60,000 to $70,000

including medical/vision, prescription and dental insurance, and paid time off. Will be entered into the appropriate NJ Pension Program.
