HCSD Substitute Health Assistant

Job Details:

• On-call, as needed to provide coverage when the regular health assistant is absent
• Hours and location may vary depending on assignment

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a high school diploma (prefer EMT/CNA/RN certification)
• Current CPR/AED certification and standard first aid card required
• Knowledge of student behavior and characteristics, and basic office methods and computer skills
• Ability to keep accurate records and files
• Professional telephone etiquette
• Ability to provide CPR/AED or first aid to injured or ill students and staff
• Ability to deal tactfully and compassionately with staff, students, and parents regarding health-related issues
• Ability to follow laws, rules, and Humboldt County School District policies and procedures
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations, and establish effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents
• May require assisting students with toileting needs and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities:

• Provide health office coverage in the absence of the regular health assistant
• Administer first aid and emergency care for students and staff
• Document student visits, treatments, and communications with parents/guardians
• Maintain confidentiality of student health records and information
• Support the health needs of students as directed by the school nurse or administrator
• Perform clerical duties related to health services as needed
• Adapt to different school sites, routines, and needs as assignments change
• Assist with other duties as assigned
