HEAD START FAMILY ADVOCATE

Primary Purpose
To provide support for Spanish speaking families, the Family Coordinator, the Education Coordinator, the Director, the Mental Health Coordinator and the office staff.

Special Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to relate, converse and work well with parents and children from various backgrounds, racial and ethnic groups.
• Ability to be an advocate and spokesperson for Head Start Families.
• Proficient computer, typing skills, and record keeping skills.
• Strong organizational skills: perform tasks with precision and thoroughness.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Ability to work cooperatively with community agencies.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Work with parents of students, promoting their engagement and providing information, support, and/or direction.
• Assist parents in goal setting and educational development of their age three to age five children; and assisting in transitioning students from preschool to Kindergarten.
• Improve community outreach and training opportunities for parents and families.
• Perform other duties as needed and/or assigned for the purpose of assisting in the completion of program activities and supporting effective functioning of the campus.
• Create new partnerships and improve existing community partners.
• Comply with all federal, state, district, and campus policies, operating procedures, and legal requirements.
• Comply with all verbal and written directives.
• Represent the Head Start program to the district and community in a positive and professional way.
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner in accordance with district expectations and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Maintain emotional control under stress; occasional district wide and occasional out of district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Salary
Contractor - September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027

Salary: $20.00 per hour not to exceed $21,600.
