Job Description
Job Title: Food Service Worker
Summary: Perform cooking, preparation, presentation, service, cashiering and service of food duties.
Performs general cleaning and sanitation activities. Duties must be performed in a manner that ensures high
quality standards of operation and compliance with the requirements of the District, the National School
Breakfast and Lunch program and other applicable accrediting agencies.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

essential functions. Basic knowledge of food handling, preparation, safety, sanitation and standard kitchen
equipment.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Language Skills: Ability to read, understand and speak Basic English to perform essential functions of
the job. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, recipes, production
sheets, temperature logs, safety rules, MSDS sheets and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one small group situations to customers and other
employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and common
fractions. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements,
volume and distance.
Ability to compute pan yields and recipe adjustments for count changes.
Ability to make change.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several
concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Food Handler's Permit/Food Service Certification required
Supervisory Responsibilities: Assist with supervision of students and student workers, ensuring that
proper safety and sanitation standards are maintained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation of high quality food items according to standardized recipes or instructions in a fast, efficient
manner in order to meet production, delivery and service schedules. Set up line, serve meals, prepare for
delivery at times, using correct portioning, recipes and production methods, meeting USDA minimum
standards and ensuring that food is at the correct temperatures and is attractive and tasty. Store leftovers
following safe food handling procedures.
Assist in production planning, ordering, receiving, record keeping, reporting, inventory and in maintaining
accurate daily production records as required.
Assists in cooking, preparation and service of food for special events when required
Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed. Report needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or
accidents to the Food Service Director immediately
Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and storing food
properly. Cleans and restocks work area throughout the day. Maintains standards for sanitation and
cleanliness by following standards for "clean as you go" and scheduled routine cleaning. Cleaning duties
may include, but are not limited to, equipment, utensils, serving area, dining area, floors, walls, baseboards,
and storage areas. Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat. All food and supply items are to be
stored properly.
Assures compliance with all, sanitation, ServSafe and safety guidelines/regulations established by the
district, company and government agencies.
Attends training and development classes and department meetings as required.
Assists in cross training of employees as required by, Director of Food Service and Nutrition Services or
any school administration.
Wears the prescribed uniform. Maintains a professional appearance at all times.
Work effectively and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, school personnel,
administrators, students, parents and Food Service Director.

SUMMARY
Performs cashiering duties including cash transactions, verifying cash drawer, accurately giving change,
counting cash receipts and filling out cash/deposit reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Carefully enters all sales into the accounting system to ensure that all purchases are accurately recorded.
Collects, records, and reports revenue and meal counts accurately in compliance with district, company and
government regulations.
Makes change, accepts acceptable forms of payment. Performs sales transactions in a reasonable and timely
fashion.
Interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints in a friendly and service oriented manner.
Responsible for all assigned change funds and cash receipts ensuring that cash drawer is in compliance with
overage/shortage standards.
Able to perform arithmetic operations involving all United States monetary units (add, subtract, multiply,
divide). Must be able to differentiate between monetary units.
Must have the ability to observe customer purchases in the food service line and to differentiate between
standard portions. And identify a USDA/ NSLBP reimbursable meal

distances and spatial relationships. Frequently uses cleaning and sanitizing chemicals and hot water.

As negotiated between Lake Local and OAPSE #335. Step 0 pay is $16.42 per hour plus medical and other benefits depending on hours worked.
