Maintenance Mechanic

Performs skilled work in one or more building or service trades at a JOURNEYMAN level in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of buildings, equipment and building systems throughout the District. The position requires a strong skilled-trades background.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment and system failures, performing skilled repairs and preventive maintenance, and reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics and technical documentation.

High school graduate and three (3) years experience in commercial or institutional facilities maintenance or service trades; or seven (7) years experience in commercial or institutional facilities maintenance or service trades; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Possession of a valid Class D NYS driver's license at time of appointment.

Seeking skilled trade professionals with substantial, hands-on, applied trade work experience in one or more skilled building or service trades, with preference to a background in commercial or institutional HVAC, heating, and boiler systems is highly preferred.

Experience with commercial or institutional HVAC systems, boilers, plumbing and piping systems, pumps, motors, electrical systems, building controls and related mechanical equipment and building systems is highly desirable.

Applicants should be capable of reading blueprints and schematics and have demonstrated experience troubleshooting equipment and building-system failures within a commercial or institutional facility.
