After School Reading Teacher Assistant

The Afterschool Reading Teaching Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Reading Specialist to support students in grades K–4 and 5–8 during Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) sessions. This position assists with small-group activities, behavioral management, and student engagement during a concentrated 2-day-a-week schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Instructional Support: Facilitate lead-designed literacy drills, flashcard routines, decodable text practice, and vocabulary activities with individual students or small groups.
• Classroom & Student Management: Help maintain a quiet, focused learning environment; assist students with staying on task and navigating transitions between activities.
• Materials & Setup: Prepare instructional materials, print decodable sheets, set up learning stations, and assist with cleanup.
• Attendance & Supervision: Assist with student check-in, arrival from daytime classrooms, and safe dismissal to parents or afterschool transportation.
• Observation: Note student progress or engagement challenges during activities and share brief observations with the Reading Specialist.
