GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Business Services, performs complex accounting, auditing, reconciliation, reporting, and financial analysis activities. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of District financial records, monitoring revenues and expenditures, supporting annual audit and financial reporting requirements, and providing technical accounting guidance to District staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Performs accounting, reconciliation, reporting, audit support, and financial analysis functions in support of District operations.
• Monitors, records, reconciles, and analyzes District revenues, including State Aid, Classroom Site Fund, Proposition 123, School Facilities Division funding, tax credits, donations, and other local, county, state, and federal revenue sources.
• Performs reconciliations of Maricopa County Treasurer records, Maricopa County School Superintendent records, Child Nutrition funds, Student Activity funds, Student Council funds, fixed asset records, and other assigned accounts.
• Prepares, reviews, verifies, and posts journal entries and reviews purchase requisitions, personnel action requests, invoices, and supporting documentation for proper account coding, budget availability, and compliance with District procedures.
• Assists with preparation of the Annual Financial Report (AFR), audit schedules, state and federal reporting, financial analyses, and other required financial submissions.
• Maintains and monitors assigned site and department budgets, including student activities, student council, tax credits, donations, extracurricular programs, and other assigned funds.
• Monitors student activity and student council accounts and provides procedural guidance to school staff regarding financial transactions, fundraising activities, cash handling, and reporting requirements.
• Compiles financial information and prepares reports related to Child Nutrition, before- and after-school programs, capital projects, School Facilities Division programs, Building Renewal Grant activities, and other assigned funds.
• Prepares annual tax credit donor statements and files required reports with the Arizona Department of Revenue.
• Serves as the Business Services contact for liability insurance documentation, certificate of insurance requests, claim reporting, and related records.
• Performs fixed asset reconciliations and prepares fixed asset financial reports and schedules.
• Provides technical guidance regarding accounting procedures, budgeting, account coding, financial transactions, and related Business Services processes; assists with development of procedures, training materials, Governing Board financial documentation, and departmental reports.
• Participates in professional development activities, works collaboratively with Business Services staff, represents the District in a professional manner, and performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Business Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field; or
• Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in Arizona public school finance, governmental accounting, or school district business operations.
• Experience with school district accounting procedures, account coding, journal entries, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of governmental accounting principles, journal entries, debits and credits, revenue accounting, account reconciliations, budgeting, USFR requirements, and school district accounting procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and financial accounting software.
Preferred
• Experience with School ERP Pro (Infinite Visions) or similar governmental accounting software.
• Arizona school district accounting experience, including Annual Financial Report (AFR) preparation, audit support, State Aid reporting, School Facilities Division funding, and County Treasurer reconciliations.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Strong analytical, accounting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prepare, interpret, and communicate financial reports, reconciliations, and schedules.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with District staff, auditors, government agencies, and the public.
• Ability to maintain confidential financial and personnel information.
• Ability to utilize accounting software, spreadsheets, databases, and standard office applications.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

COMPENSATION
Placement on the District Exempt Support Staff Salary Schedule, Band 2 ($53,595.00-$65,906.00).
