Pre-K Intervention and Referral Specialist

Description:

The Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist (PIRS) provides specialized consultation, intervention, coaching, and support to preschool teachers, classroom staff, children, and families to promote the successful participation and development of all preschool children within inclusive general education settings. The PIRS works collaboratively with preschool instructional coaches, teachers, administrators, families, intervention teams, and community partners to identify children's strengths and needs, develop and implement appropriate interventions, and support teachers in addressing developmental, social-emotional, behavioral, communication, and learning needs. The PIRS utilizes a collaborative, strengths-based, and problem-solving approach designed to provide appropriate support within the preschool classroom and to reduce unnecessary referrals to special education while ensuring that children who require additional evaluation or services are appropriately identified and supported.

Qualifications:

1. Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field.

2. Valid New Jersey instructional certificate appropriate to the position; early childhood preferred.

3. Minimum of 5 years of successful experience working with preschool or early childhood students, preferably in a public school or high-quality early childhood program.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice and early childhood instructional strategies.

5. Experience providing mentoring, coaching, consultation, behavioral support, professional development, or instructional support to teachers preferred.

6. Knowledge of New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards, curriculum, assessment, intervention/referral process, and New Jersey early childhood program requirements.

Salary Range : $64,234.-$88,724.
