School Bus Dispatcher

LOCATION OF POSITION: Fairport NY 14450; Transportation Department
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time; 12 Month Position
STARTING DATE: September 2026
SALARY RANGE: $20.00 - $26.50
*Actual Salary Is Dependent Upon Education, Experience and Contract.

• DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The School Bus Dispatcher works under the general supervision of the Transportation Director and is the key position in the coordination and direction of a fleet of school buses which may include the following duties:
• Assign Substitute Bus Drivers and Bus Attendants.
• Assist in safety meetings.
• Dispatch vehicles according to schedule.
• Ensure specialized transportation for students assigned to BOCES buses to and from home, shuttles, and field trips, etc.
• Operate a two-way radio.
• Substitute as a Bus Driver when a substitute is unavailable.
• Substitute as a Bus Attendant when a substitute is unavailable.
• Assist in the communication to proper personnel in emergency situations.
• Answers telephones.
• Maintain excellent communication and a professional rapport with all clients and staff.
• Perform other duties as necessary.
• Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).

• MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Civil Service eligibility as Bus Dispatcher: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus (1) year paid full time or its part time equivalent experience as a bus driver or clerical work in bus transportation activities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending upon assignment, possession of a current Class *B* or Class *C* Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a *P* (Passenger) endorsement and *S* (School Bus) endorsement, issued by the State of New York at the time of appointment, (must be twenty-one (21) years of age to be eligible to obtain required driver's license).

3. Three years of experience as a School Bus Driver and at least one year of transporting students with special needs preferred.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiar with FCC radio codes.
• Physically able to perform essential functions (with or without reasonable accommodation).
