The mission of Newman International Academy is to train and educate future generations of young men and women with wisdom, stature and favor; to give students opportunities to become whole individuals ready to serve the world by helping them reach their highest potential, and to provide in partnership with parents and community a well-rounded education within the context of American heritage.

Primary Purpose:

Provide comprehensive guidance and counseling for secondary students to assist in educational, social, personal, and career development. Support parents, faculty, and staff who are assisting student growth in all areas.

Qualifications:

• Education/Certification:
• Bachelor's degree, Master’s degree preferred
• Texas Counselor’s certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• General knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and career planning
• Ability to work with students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

• Teaching experience preferred
• Counselor internship and/or experience preferred
• Experience at the middle school or high school level preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Be a role model; uphold the school vision of nurture, character, discipline, and academic excellence.
• Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and career plans.
• Consult with faculty regarding effective placement of students; attend ARD meetings.
• Complete student schedules, keep transcripts updated, ensure graduation requirements are met, including Newman-specific requirements.
• Assist with implementation of CCMR activities (SAT/ACT/TSI testing, ASVAB, college-related events, vocational studies, internships, dual credit, etc.)
• Consult with teachers, parents, and staff regarding meeting developmental needs of students.
• Coordinate, conduct, or participate in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school.
• Maintain professional communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
• Attend all staff meetings and complete all recommended training.
• Follow federal, state, and district policies and maintain confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.
