Primary Purpose:

Transport students safely and efficiently to and from school, activities, and special events while ensuring student safety and maintaining a positive environment that reflects the values and mission of Newman International Academy.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) required.
• Air Brake endorsement preferred.
• Texas School Bus Driver Certification required or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
• Safe driving record in accordance with Texas Education Code §34.003 and Department of Public Safety requirements.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to safely operate a school bus and meet all physical requirements of the position.
• Knowledge of student management and safety procedures.
• Basic first aid knowledge preferred.
• Ability to establish and maintain appropriate student conduct.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important.

Experience:

• Previous school bus or commercial vehicle driving experience preferred.
• Experience working with children or students preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Serve as a positive role model and uphold the Newman Academy’s commitment to character, discipline, nurturing relationships, and excellence.
• Safely transport students, staff, and authorized passengers on assigned routes, extracurricular trips, and field trips.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required documentation.
• Maintain order and discipline among student passengers in accordance with school policies.
• Ensure student safety during loading, unloading, and transportation.
• Report safety concerns, incidents, accidents, and mechanical issues promptly.
• Fuel vehicles, check fluid levels, inspect tires, and monitor overall vehicle conditions.
• Maintain accurate mileage logs, route sheets, time records, and other required reports.
• Keep assigned vehicles clean and presentable.
• Attend required training sessions and maintain all certifications and licenses.
• Assist with transportation-related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

• Full-time schedule with morning and afternoon routes.
• Additional hours may include field trips, athletic events, and special activities.
