Substitute Teacher

Nixon-Smiley CISD maintains a current list of persons qualified to serve as substitute teachers and who have met all certification standards as prescribed by the Superintendent. Substitute teachers are called in emergency situations to carry out teacher responsibilities such as: Keeping attendance, executing lesson plans, and maintaining an orderly instructional environment for students.

Requirements:
Must pass a biometric fingerprint-based background check. Must have a High school diploma or GED. Some experience working with children. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively. General knowledge of computer operation and basic office equipment.

2. Provide a copy of GED, H.S. Diploma, or College Transcripts

3. If available, provide a copy of a valid Texas Teacher Certificate

4. Provide proof of Identity (Driver's License, Birth Certificate, Passport, or other Federal Documents)

Included in the electronic application:

• You must affirm whether you are in compliance with the SB 9 fingerprint requirement and submit to a CHRI review via the "DPS Computerized Criminal History (CCH) Verification Form" (included in the application process).
• An "Affidavit of Applicant Offered Employment" (included in the application process) must be completed and notarized before a candidate is offered a professional position at N-S CISD. A notary public is available in the Human Resources office for candidates who are recommended for employment. This pre-employment requirement complies with TEC 21.009.
