MS Assistant Wrestling Coach

The North Plainfield School District invites applications for an Assistant Wrestling Coach position at North Plainfield Middle School beginning with the 2026�2027 winter season.

We are seeking passionate, student-centered coaches who are committed to helping build a comprehensive wrestling program that supports student-athletes both on and off the mat.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

Required:

• Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or New Jersey Substitute Certificate.
• Knowledge of wrestling fundamentals, techniques, rules, strategies, conditioning, and safe coaching practices.
• Ability to teach and develop middle school student-athletes of varying skill levels.
• Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to student-athlete safety, sportsmanship, character development, and academic success.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Wrestling Coach, coaching staff, Athletic Administration, student-athletes, parents/guardians, and the school community.
• Must meet all district, NJSIAA, and applicable New Jersey requirements for coaching, including required certifications and background checks.
• Successful completion of all required NJSIAA coaching education requirements and mandatory coaching certifications.
• Successful completion of all district employment requirements.

Preferred:

• Previous wrestling coaching and/or competitive wrestling experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Head Wrestling Coach in planning and conducting practices, competitions, and team activities.
• Teach proper wrestling techniques, fundamentals, conditioning, and match strategies.
• Support the development of student-athletes' physical fitness, confidence, discipline, and overall wrestling skills.
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful team environment.
• Reinforce expectations for attendance, punctuality, behavior, academics, and sportsmanship.
• Prioritize student-athlete safety by teaching proper procedures, supervising practices, and following injury-prevention protocols.
• Assist with the organization of wrestling equipment, uniforms, facilities, and team logistics.
• Support the preparation of wrestlers for dual meets, tournaments, and other athletic events.
• Provide appropriate supervision before, during, and after practices and competitions.
• Communicate effectively with the Head Coach, student-athletes, parents/guardians, and Athletic Administration.
• Assist with monitoring student-athlete eligibility, participation, attendance, and academic progress.
• Serve as a positive role model and representative of North Plainfield Middle School Athletics.
• Participate in required coaching meetings, professional development, and district athletic initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletic Administration.
