School Assistant (Lunch and Recess Supervisor)

Reports To: Building Principal
Term: 10 months (student attendance calendar)

Schedule: 2 hours per day; 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on all student attendance days (approximately 346 paid hours per year)

Wage: Hourly paid by timesheet

Position Summary

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 is recruiting school assistants to provide student supervision during elementary (K-5) lunch and recess periods at Wescott and Willowbrook Schools. The school assistant works as a teammate to the food service program, building custodian, fellow student supervisors, and the front office.

What You'll Do

• Ensure the safety and well-being of students during lunch and recess periods
• Guide students in following routines and behavior expectations set by the building principal and teachers
• Collaborate with the food service program, building custodian, and front office team
• Encourage positive social interactions and help students resolve minor conflicts
• Assist with basic first aid as needed (e.g., band-aids, ice packs)
• Help maintain a clean, orderly, and safe lunch and recess environment

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent) or higher
• Experience working with children preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain a calm and positive demeanor in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to interact positively and build rapport with elementary school children
• Flexibility to handle changing situations and unexpected events
• Keen observation skills to monitor multiple students simultaneously and identify potential safety hazards
• Ability to remain on feet for extended periods and move quickly when necessary to ensure student safety
